Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church a.k.a Winners Chapel, David Oyedepo, has warned that none of the universities run by the commission should be named after him any time he goes to be with the Lord.
Oyedepo gave the warning on Wednesday September 24 during one of the events organised to mark his 70 birthday.
The renowned clergyman turns 70 on Friday.
A native of Omu-Aran in Kwara State, North Central Nigeria, Bishop Oyedepo was born on September 27, 1954.
He presides over LFC founded in 1981 after an 18-hour encounter with God in Ilesha in the present day Osun State, South West Nigeria.
The ministry runs two Christian universities – Covenant University located in Canaan Land, the church’s international headquarters in Ota, Ogun State and Landmark University located in Omu-Aran.
While Covenant University was founded in October 2002, Landmark was established in March 2011.
“I am not a founder. He founded me. When I get to heaven, when my time comes, nobody is permitted forever to rename Covenant (University) and Landmark (University).
“The owner does not die. He ever lives. Your legacy is not a name placed on a thing. It is in the life of the people,” Oyedepo, who is the chancellor of the two universities, said.
The clergyman said he is glad he has not wasted his life, noting that what is important in life is the value one adds and not the position they occupy or the things they acquire.
He said, “There is nothing you have that defines you. I am glad I have not wasted my life. Don’t crave for position, crave for contribution. It is the value you add that defines you. Be contribution-driven.
“Possession has no value. It is not about having much; it is about having heart.”
Oyedepo said he is not an expert and should never be called an icon. According to him, only Jesus, whom he represents on earth, is an icon.
“I am not an expert. Don’t ever call me an icon. I am representing the icon, Jesus. I am not an achiever. We don’t achieve in the kingdom. We engage with grace to find our place.
“You can’t be anything more than the grace God makes you. Engaging with grace is what helps us to achieve in the kingdom. Do not receive the grace of God in vain but make the most of it. It is impact that engenders influence. You don’t need influence. Just keep adding value.
The father of four urged his listeners to remain in faith, adding that the Church of Jesus is ordained the “Endtime reigning Church.”
Stating that the Church is not a building, Oyedepo said it is God’s “people who are walking on their paths. They are walking on their way.”
He added, “They (nations) will come to us. (saying) ‘Come help us’. They sent for Joseph. They sent for Daniel. The days are back here. Keep living by the Word so that you wouldn’t miss your place in that endtime army.
“Because of the greatness of that grace, beware of pride. With pride, you can’t locate your place. But blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.”
