About seven people were killed on Friday October 21 when gunmen attacked the convoy of a popular Nigerian cleric, Apostle Johnson Suleman,
Punch newspaper reports that Suleman, the founder and senior pastor of the Omega Fire Ministries (OFM) with headquarters in Auchi, Edo State, South South Nigeria, was returning from a foreign trip when his convoy was attacked.
He was returning from Tanzania in East Africa where he had just held a programme.
Although, he escaped unhurt.by the time the attack was over, about seven people, including three policemen lay dead from the gunshots.
Samuel Amune, lawyer to Apostle Suleman, who confirmed the incident to Punch, said the attack took place along Benin-Auchi Road
“He was returning from a journey and he had almost on the shores of Auchi when some assassins attacked him. Three of his police orderlies, among others died. He travelled before and just finished a program in Tanzania.
“He was returning to Auchi when the gunmen attacked him along Sabingida down to Warake area, and Auchi shares direct boundary with Warake. So, he had passed Warake and was entering the boundaries of Auchi when the attack happened,” he said.
Police spokesperson in Edo State, Chuidi Nwabuzor, also confirmed the attack, saying six persons including policemen and Suleman’s driver were shot dead while a domestic staff is missing.
Nwabuzor also said that one of the assailants was killed.
