Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, says he has become a “more religious” because of some challenges he has encountered in recent times.
Zuckerberg disclosed this during an interview at Silicon Slopes Tech Summit.
The 36-years-old who is worth $80.7 billion (as of January) has recently faced criticisms over ceaseless accusations that the social media platform not only has anti-conservative bias but also influenced elections.
He had appeared before U.S. Congress after lawmakers expressed concern about Facebook’s involvement in the financial system and other issues.
Zuckerberg, who renounced atheism in December 2016, admitted that “the last few years have been very humbling for me. I have become more religious.”
The Facebook CEO also said it is important to believe in something “bigger than ourselves, adding that his family would remain more important to him than his work.
He stressed, “We all need to feel like we are parts of things that are bigger than ourselves.
“I try to put my girls to be every night…I don’t always get to do that but that is important to me.
“Work is important…. But at the end of the day we are all people, and you need your family and friends and communities around you.
“You have to believe in things that are bigger than yourself.”
In December 2016, Zuckerberg, who was raised in a Jewish home, posted on his Facebook page that he had found religion, saying he was “celebrating Christmas.”
“I was raised Jewish and then I went through a period where I questioned things. But now I believe religion is very important,” he stated at the time.
In 2017, Zuckerberg travelled around the United States to meet religious leaders with a view to having a greater understanding of the nature of relationships as developed within a community of faith.
