U.S. Democratic presidential frontrunner, Joe Biden, was on Sunday refused communion by a South Carolina church because of his position on abortion.
Biden, a Catholic and former vice president of the country, supports abortion.
A report by Christian Headlines, said Biden was campaigning in South Carolina when he stopped Sunday morning at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Florence, S.C.
The pastor of the church, Reverend Morey, confirmed the development.
“Sadly, this past Sunday, I had to refuse Holy Communion to Former Vice President Joe Biden,” Morey said according to WPDE in Florence.
“Holy Communion signifies we are one with God, each other and the Church. Our actions should reflect that. Any public figure who advocates for abortion places himself or herself outside of Church teaching.
“As a priest, it is my responsibility to minister to those souls entrusted to my care, and I must do so even in the most difficult situations. I will keep Mr. Biden in my prayers.”
Biden Campaign Organisation has yet to speak on the issue.
Biden had a few weeks ago, during Democratic debate, said he would ensure abortion remains legal.
“I would make sure that … we codify Roe v. Wade,” Biden said. “The public is already there. Things have changed. … Reproductive rights are a constitutional right. And, in fact, every woman should have that right.”
