Pastor Enoch Adeboye

Adeboye, 83, said he would die peacefully on a Sunday after attending a church service and eating pounded yam, which he described as his favourite meal.

The revered clergyman spoke on Thursday August 6 while delivering a sermon titled, Possess Your Possessions,” at the ongoing 72nd convention of the mega church.

The convention, themed, “The Overcomers,” is holding at the Redemption City along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State. It began on August 5 and will end on 10th.

“I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness,” he said.

The former university teacher said death dies not always come through prolonged illness, adding that his death would be sudden and without pain.

Not first time prediction

It was not the first time Adeboye would speak about the manner he would depart the world.

Two years ago, he shared a similar vision, stating that he wished to die like one of his uncles did.

“I know somebody will say if we are never sick, how are we going to die and go to heaven?

“An uncle of mine woke up on a thanksgiving Sunday, went to church, danced like everybody else, came home and his wife gave him a light breakfast before preparing the original food which was pounded yam.

“She was already pounding the yam when my uncle decided to go to the toilet. After she finished pounding, she knocked at the door of the toilet. When they opened the door, my uncle was gone; no sickness, no ache, no pain.

“If the Lord tarries His coming, that is how I will go. I will go on a Sunday after a good meal of pounded yam,” Adeboye said at the time.

Fighting for blessings

In the sermon delivered in the ongoing convention on Sunday, the RCCG leader urged Christians to actively claim what is rightfully theirs in Christ.

He warned that spiritual blessings often have to be fought for.

Drawing from the biblical story of the Israelites taking the Promised Land, he said, “In many cases, you may have to fight for things that are already yours.”

He mentioned healing, prosperity, fruitfulness, and long life as areas where believers must resist spiritual opposition.

Adeboye added, “Your greatest friend, Jesus Christ, paid a great price to purchase your healing. Yet there is a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy,” he said, citing John 10:10. “Long life is yours, but the devil wants to kill you with all he has. You must fight to live.”

Prosperity

Speaking on prosperity, the cleric said, “The One who owns the earth and its fullness, and owns all the silver and gold, paid a terrible price so that you wouldn’t be poor. As long as you want to remain poor, you will remain poor.”

He criticised the double standard faced by successful Christians saying,  “If you make it as a Christian, they criticise you. If you die poor, they say, ‘Where’s your God?’”
