margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">The denial was contained in a statement by a presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Friday June 19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">The parliamentarians under the aegis of UK All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion and Belief (APPG), in a report on June 15, alleged that the Nigerian government was allowing armed Islamist groups to kill, maim and displace Christians, through a systematic cleansing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">The report, titled \u201cNigeria \u2013 Unfolding Genocide?\u201d, painted a picture of an ongoing religious\/ethnic cleansing ongoing in Nigeria, with government doing almost nothing to end it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">It said the cleansing was particularly targeted at northern Christians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">\u201cAttacks by armed groups of Islamist Fulani herdsmen have resulted in the killing, maiming, dispossession and eviction of thousands of Christians,\u201d the APPG said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">The Nigerian government in the statement said, \u201cAlthough it is difficult reading, the statement also acknowledges the importance of accurate, unbiased, depoliticised and truthful information when it comes to understanding the realities and addressing the challenges for those of faith in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">\u201cIn this regard when uncritical attention is afforded to critics with dubious intentions, it only becomes harder for both the government and people of Nigeria to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve our differences, and uphold what is enshrined in our Constitution and laws: that everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.\u2019\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">The statement said there had been an age-long tensions between Christianity and Islam as well as herders and farmers, saying they were not new. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">The government said the struggle for access to ever-decreasing arable and farmland was the reason herders and farmers clashed repeatedly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">\u201cExacerbating those tensions, our nation has also been in recent times and focused within the northern states \u2013 subject to vicious and criminal attacks by the terror group Boko Haram.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 18.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #3a2020;\">\u201cIn concert with our American and British allies, Nigeria\u2019s military have pushed back the terrorists and largely reduced their capacity over the last five years compared to the previous decade,\u2019\u2019 he maintained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;
