{"id":841,"date":"2020-05-14T20:28:28","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T19:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/?p=841"},"modified":"2020-05-14T20:28:28","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T19:28:28","slug":"american-missionary-pilot-killed-in-crash-transporting-covid-19-supplies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/?p=841","title":{"rendered":"American Missionary pilot killed in crash transporting COVID-19 supplies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_840\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-840\" style=\"width: 66px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-840\" src=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Joyce-Lin-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"66\" height=\"66\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-840\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joyce Lin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>American missionary pilot, Joyce Lin, has been killed in a plane crash while transporting COVID-19 supplies, Christian Post has reported.<\/p>\n<p>Lin, 40, died on May 12 to after her plane crashed shortly after it took off to deliver COVID-19 supplies to remote villages in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Lin, according to the report, worked for Idaho-based Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) whose pilots use Cessina and Kodiak aircraft to transport items to remote areas in the world to share \u201cChrist\u2019s Love beyond where the road ends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Items transported by MAF include medicine, doctors, disaster relief, evangelists, Bible translators, food supplies and agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>The Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) family is deeply saddened by the loss of their colleague and friend,\u201d a statement from MAF said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoyce was responding to the needs of the village of Mamit in the Papua highlands and cargo on the plane included COVID-19 rapid test kits for the local clinic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithin minutes of take-off, she reported an emergency and the aircraft descended into Lake Sentani. Joyce was the only person on the airplane.<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson in Papua, Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said Lin sent a distress call and requested to return to the airport, but the control tower lost contact with her as a result of which she crashed into the lake.<\/p>\n<p>Her body was found in the lake about two hours later at a depth of approximately 13 metres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has dedicated her life to transporting humanitarian supplies and missionaries to hard-to-reach areas in Papua,\u201d Kamal said.<\/p>\n<p>Christian Post said Lin was raised in Colorado and Maryland and started work with MAF in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>She graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees. She also received a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theology Seminary where she first learned about mission aviation.<\/p>\n<p>MAF said, \u201cJoyce loved working for MAF in Indonesia, where she served as a pilot and field IT support specialist. Though she was there just two years \u2013 one in Central Java for language school and another in Sentani \u2013 her impact was significant.
