Nigerian Christians will henceforth hold national prayers on January 21 every year, their umbrella body, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has announced.<\/span><\/p>\n

It said the prayers would be in honour of its slain official, Reverend Lawan Andimi and other Christians who were killed by the Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists and herders.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adebayo Oladeji, spokesperson of the CAN President, Samson Ayokunle, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Andimi was CAN chairman in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa, North East Nigeria until his death.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was abducted by ISWAP terrorists on January 2, 2020 and subsequently beheaded on January 21 for refusing to renounce Christianity and convert to Islam.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJanuary 21 was the day Rev. Andimi was killed by the Boko Haram terrorists after his refusal to convert to Islam as demanded by his captors, hence, it was a day chosen in his honour,\u201d Oladeji said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe resolution, according to the CAN President, became imperative in honour of all the Christians who have been killed by the Boko Haram terrorists, herdsmen killers, and the bandits nationwide.\u2019\u2019 <\/span><\/p>\n

He asked the Body of Christ in Nigeria, especially denominational leaders to reflect the date in their annual calendar of activities.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
