{"id":2478,"date":"2025-06-21T19:39:18","date_gmt":"2025-06-21T18:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/?p=2478"},"modified":"2025-06-21T19:39:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-21T18:39:18","slug":"n30m-donation-controversy-why-we-accepted-governments-money-rejected-by-pastor-enenche-kebbi-can","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/?p=2478","title":{"rendered":"N30m Donation Controversy: Why we accepted government\u2019s money rejected by Pastor Enenche \u2013 Kebbi CAN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2477\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2477\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2477\" src=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Venerable-Ayuba-Kanta-300x157.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Venerable-Ayuba-Kanta-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Venerable-Ayuba-Kanta.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2477\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Venerable Ayuba Kanta<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The Kebbi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said it did not reject a N30 million donation from the state government during the healing and deliverance crusade held by the Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC), a mega church in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Venerable Ayuba Kanta, the chairman of the chapter, which co-planned the event with DIGC, in a statement on Thursday 19 June, said the gift was not a personal one to any religious leader but support from the government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Backstory<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the two-day crusade themed, \u201cDominion,\u201d and held at the Haliru Abdu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital, the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Zayyanu Umar Aliero, announced that Governor Nasir Idris had approved a N30 million gift for the event\u2019s organisers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He said, \u201cOur governor, His Excellency Dr Nasir Idris, has approved the donation of the sum of N40 million to this gathering,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the DIGC Senior Pastor, Dr Paul Enenche, <a href=\"https:\/\/guardian.ng\/news\/nigeria\/metro\/pastor-enenche-rejects-n30m-gift-from-kebbi-govt-says-it-should-go-to-charity\/\">rejected<\/a> the gift, and pleaded that it should be given to orphans and other vulnerable people.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1025\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1025\" style=\"width: 217px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1025\" src=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Dr-Pastor-Paul-Enenche.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"217\" height=\"233\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1025\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Pastor Paul Enenche<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf there is anything like an orphanage, if there is anything like that, at your discretion, please apply this amount of money to it. No. It will not be received,\u201d Enenche said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Explaining why he rejected the money, the clergyman stated that government funds should only be used for government projects, not for churches.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are one of those who believe that government money should be used for government projects and government things should be used for government things; and church money should be used for church things, not mixed together.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThat is what we did, that is what we do. As small as the Glory Dome is right there, government money is not in it. From land to the building to everything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enenche then advised that if the money must be given to a religious group, it should be given to a government-approved Christian body, such as CAN or the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis is so that we can retain our dignity as a body of Christ; retain our dignity as a church, and say what we need to say when we need to say it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response to Enenche\u2019s rejection, Aliero said he respected the pastor\u2019s choice, saying, \u201cThey didn\u2019t accept it because whatever he is doing, he is doing it for the sake of God. We appreciate and we thank him for what he is doing in our state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>No to rejection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, in his statement, Venerable Kanta, explained that CAN accepted the donation because it was given in support of the crusade, jointly organised by the association, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and Enenche\u2019s DIGC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe N30 million was in support of the crusade jointly organised by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, and CAN Kebbi State chapter,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He said Enenche, who ministered at the event, has a standing policy not to accept personal gifts during his ministry activities, adding that based on his (Enenche) recommendation, the funds were redirected by the state CAN leadership towards developmental projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kanta, who is the vicar of the St. Luke&#8217;s Anglican Cathedral Church, Birnin Kebbi,\u00a0confirmed that part of the money was used for the construction of a perimeter fence at the Christian cemetery recently approved by Governor Nasir Idris.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also thanked Governor Idris for his support, including the release of the state stadium for the crusade, use of the banquet hall at the Presidential Lodge for a ministers\u2019 meeting, and the facilitation of palliative distribution to students and women during the event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He reaffirmed CAN\u2019s cordial relationship with the state government, describing the governor as \u201ca jolly friend of all Christians and CAN leadership in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; \u00a0The Kebbi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said it did not reject a N30 million donation from the state government during the healing and deliverance crusade held by the Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC), a mega church in Nigeria.
