Moments later, dancers pranced provocatively down a runway in front of the table while the drag queens clapped in applause.<\/p>\n<p>It sparked pushback from across the spectrum, including from politicians, sports commentators, and religious leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod will not be mocked,\u201d ESPN\u2019s Jimmy Dykes wrote on X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n<p>Skillet frontman John Cooper, on Instagram,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C96J7G8PLMN\/?hl=en\">said<\/a>\u00a0the ceremony \u201cmocked Christianity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 2024 Olympics are mocking the Lord Jesus,\u201d\u00a0wrote pastor Ted Traylor of Olive Baptist Church in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only are Christians the only people that it is socially acceptable to mock \u2026 it\u2019s actually celebrated and put front and center when it happens,\u201d\u00a0wrote Shane Pruitt, director of next-gen evangelism for the North American Mission Board. \u201cRemember the words of Jesus: \u2018If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/john\/15-18.html\">John 15:18<\/a>).\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rhyne Putman, a professor of theology at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, wrote:\u00a0\u201c\u2018Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers conspire together against the Lord and his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crosswalk.com\/faith\/bible-study\/what-does-it-mean-to-be-anointed.html\">Anointed<\/a>\u00a0One\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/psalms\/passage\/?q=psalms+2:1-2\">Ps 2:1-2<\/a>).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio also cited Scripture, writing,\u00a0\u201c\u2018In the last time there will be scoffers who will live according to their own godless desires.\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/jude\/1-18.html\">Jude 1:18<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine the outcry if the Olympic Games mocked Muhammad the way it is mocking our Lord,\u201d\u00a0wrote Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action. \u201cMy heart is sad for the mindless hatred that one must have to do this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd now they are openly mocking Christians at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony,\u201d\u00a0wrote Kristen Waggoner, president of Alliance Defending Freedom. \u201cThere are billions of Christians across the world &#8212; Christians who will compete at the Olympics. This mockery is repugnant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMocking a global ancient religion at the global ancient games is kind of a stunning choice\u2014Christianity aside,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/gpackiam\/status\/1817020896663748858\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0Glenn Packiam, lead pastor of Rockharbor Church in California.<\/p>\n<p>Others pointed to history, noting that during the French Revolution, there was significant opposition to Christianity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrance was Europe\u2019s first Catholic kingdom; the\u00a0Church\u2019s\u00a0eldest daughter,\u2019\u201d\u00a0wrote radio host Chris Rossini. \u201cIn 1789, a pivotal revolution took place in France.
