{"id":1934,"date":"2024-07-27T14:38:44","date_gmt":"2024-07-27T13:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/?p=1934"},"modified":"2024-07-28T16:40:41","modified_gmt":"2024-07-28T15:40:41","slug":"how-vatican-ex-communicated-popes-critic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/?p=1934","title":{"rendered":"Why Vatican ex-communicated Pope\u2019s critic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1935\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1935\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1935\" src=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carlo-Maria-Vigano-300x300.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carlo-Maria-Vigano-300x300.webp 300w, https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carlo-Maria-Vigano-150x150.webp 150w, https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carlo-Maria-Vigano-75x75.webp 75w, https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carlo-Maria-Vigano.webp 312w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1935\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carlo Maria Vigano<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div id=\":m2\" class=\"Am aiL Al editable LW-avf tS-tW tS-tY\" tabindex=\"1\" role=\"textbox\" contenteditable=\"true\" spellcheck=\"false\" aria-label=\"Message Body\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-owns=\":va\" aria-controls=\":va\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<p>The Vatican has ex-communicated an archbishop and its former ambassador (papal nuncio) to the United States, Carlo Maria Vigano, from the Catholic Church.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Vigano, 83, who questioned the legitimacy of Pope Francis and portions of the Second Vatican Council, was punished for the canonical crime of schism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Canon law defines schism as a \u201crefusal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">A press statement from the Holy See, said the priest was informed of his ex-communication on Friday July 5. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cHis public statements manifesting his refusal to recognise and submit to the Supreme Pontiff, his rejection of communion with the members of the Church subject to him, and of the legitimacy and magisterial authority of the Second Vatican Council are well known,\u201d the statement said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cAt the conclusion of the penal process, the Most Reverend Carlo Maria Vigano was found guilty of the reserved delict of schism,\u201d it added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Two weeks ago, the Catholic Church\u2019s disciplinary body known as Vatican Department of Faith (Vatican\u2019s Inquisition) issued a decree summoning Vigano to an extrajudicial trial in Rome for the crime of schism. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">However, he failed to appear though he had posted on X that his sentence \u201chas already been prepared, given that it is an extrajudicial process.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Vigano, an Italian, said in a statement on June 20 that he regarded the charges against him \u201can honour.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">With the decision to excommunicate him, the archbishop would no longer partake in Catholic sacraments, including communion.
