Some of them went back to their homes desperate for something to eat but when they got home, they found everything destroyed \u2013 nothing to sit on, nothing to drink out of, not even a lightbulb.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs we travelled round the area, we could see how the Christians\u2019 homes were scattered \u2013 50 or 60 here, two or three over there and yet every Christian home has been targeted, nothing left.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1574\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1574\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1574\" src=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Full-Gospel-Church-burned-down-300x200.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Full-Gospel-Church-burned-down-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Full-Gospel-Church-burned-down-768x512.webp 768w, https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Full-Gospel-Church-burned-down-750x500.webp 750w, https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Full-Gospel-Church-burned-down.webp 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Full Gospel Church burnt down<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christian leaders in Pakistan have condemned the new wave of violence and demanded justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bishop Benny Travas, in a letter to ACN, accused the government and authorities of failing to protect Christians, noting that the violence showed that Pakistani Christians are \u201cin reality second-class citizens to be terrorised and frightened at will.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_791\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-791\" style=\"width: 181px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-791\" src=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Map-of-Pakistan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"181\" height=\"128\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Map-of-Pakistan.jpg 181w, https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Map-of-Pakistan-120x86.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 181px) 100vw, 181px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-791\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Map of Pakistan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Travas stressed, \u201cOnce again, we have the same old condemnations and visits by the politicians and other government officials expressing their solidarity with the Christian community and that \u2018justice will be done\u2019 but in reality nothing materialises and all is forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI urgently call upon the Punjab Government to take swift, decisive and resolute action against those responsible for perpetrating this heinous act. The culprits must be identified, apprehended and brought to justice,\u201d Archbishop of Islamabad-Rawalpindi and President of Catholic Bishops\u2019 Conference, Joseph Arshad, said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bishop Azad Marshall, the moderator of the Church of Pakistan, said in a tweet, \u201cWords fail me. We, bishops, priests and lay people are deeply pained and distressed at the Jaranwala incident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA church building is being burnt as I type this message. Bibles have been desecrated and Christians have been tortured and harassed, having been falsely accused of violating the Holy Koran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe cry for justice and action from law enforcement and those who dispense justice and the safety of all citizens to intervene immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christianity is the third largest religion in Pakistan with about 1.27 per cent of the country\u2019s population, according to the 2017 Census.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With about 240 million adherents, Pakistan is the second largest Muslim country in the world.
