{"id":1229,"date":"2021-10-10T21:18:41","date_gmt":"2021-10-10T20:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/?p=1229"},"modified":"2021-10-10T21:18:41","modified_gmt":"2021-10-10T20:18:41","slug":"senator-says-god-hasnt-given-up-on-america","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/?p=1229","title":{"rendered":"Senator says God hasn\u2019t given up on America"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1224\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1224\" style=\"width: 286px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1224\" src=\"https:\/\/thechristian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Map-of-United-States.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"176\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1224\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Map of United States<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Recent comparisons of the United States of America with the biblical Sodom and Gomorrah have drawn the response of an American senator, who said the country would not destroy the country as he did to the biblical cities.<\/p>\n<p><em>Christian Headlines<\/em> reported Senator James Lankford as saying on October 8 that God has not given up on the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Genesis 19:24-25 gives account of how God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with brimstone and fire because of wickedness.<\/p>\n<p>It says, \u201cThen the Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities and plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>God spoke about the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah in Verses 20 and 21 of Chapter 18 of Genesis. \u201cAnd the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous, I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Matthew 10: 14 and 15, Jesus spoke about Sodom and Gomorrah, saying that any town which does receive the gospel being preached, \u201cIt will be more tolerable for the Land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgement than for that town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some Americans believe their country is witnessing moral decadence like Sodom and Gomorrah hence they surmise it might attract God\u2019s wrath.<\/p>\n<p>Assessing the degeneration of the U.S., Senator Lankford, while speaking at Family Research Council\u2019s Inaugural Pray Vote Stand Summit in Leesburg, Va, said, he remained hopeful about the future of the country because God has continued to send Christians to serve in Washington.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cThat would tell me even if this is Sodom and Gomorrah, He hasn\u2019t given up on it. We shouldn\u2019t give up on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lankford, a Republican, who represents Oklahoma, said some of his constituents sometimes compare Washington and Sodom and Gomorrah, telling him, \u201cI can\u2019t believe you work there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019ll typically smile at them and go, \u2018Yeah, I can see some similar characteristics. But at the end in Sodom and Gomorrah, God was pulling all the believers out. He\u2019s still sending believers in (to Washington),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The senator said Washington D.C. is a \u201cmirror to the country more than the country wants to admit. If we want to see a change, I really am convinced that Washington doesn\u2019t change the country. (Instead) the country changes Washington. And the country is changed by churches and by believers actually living their faith.
