\u00a0<\/strong>Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis, has thrown his weight behind same sex marriage, Premium Times has reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cHomosexual people have a right to be in a family. They\u2019re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out or be made miserable over it,\u201d the pope said in a new documentary film, \u201cFrancesco.\u201d<\/p>\n

Francesco is directed by Russian filmmaker Evgeny Afineevsky.<\/p>\n

The Catholic News Agency (CNN) reported that the film premiered at the Rome Film Festival on October 21.<\/p>\n

The film also explores the Pope\u2019s work and views in other issues, including climate change, migration and economic equality, its website said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered,\u201d the Pope stated further.<\/p>\n

Pope Francis, whose name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, has been subtly supporting gay marriage since his enthronement in 2013.<\/p>\n

The BBC had quoted the pontiff then as saying, \u201cThe key is for the church to welcome, not exclude, and show mercy, not condemnation. If a person is gay and seeks God and has goodwill, who am I to judge?\u201d<\/p>\n
