Nigerian Catholic priest found dead in car

A Nigerian Catholic priest, Charles Okeke-Odogwu, has been found dead in his car in Anambra State, South East Nigeria, Premium Times newspaper has reported.

Okeke-Odogwu was until his death the Vicar of Holy Cross Parish, Oroma-Etiti in Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area of the state.

He was found dead on the steering just before the gate of the vicarage.

The newspaper quoted a family source as saying that the priest was manager of the Father Ohai Memorial Secondary School and had attended a regional meeting of his Archdiocese on March 23 before his death.

Said the source, “He participated actively at the meeting and did not show any sign of illness before the sad incident. He had vomited in the car before he died.”

A resident of the area said Okeke-Odogwu might have had heart attack leading to his death.

“He was found next morning in his car that was still steaming,” he said.

The police have already confirmed the incident.

The Public Relation Officer of the State Police Command, Haruna Mohammed, said the Commissioner of Police, John Abang, had requested the divisional police officer in the area to investigate the report.

“It seems there was no official report on such incident but the CP has directed the DPO to find out please,” he said.
