Man with explosives held in Winners Chapel

A man carrying a substance suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was on Sunday arrested in a branch of Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel in Kaduna State, North West Nigeria.

Police say the man, who was later identified as Nathaniel Samuel, was arrested while allegedly trying to detonate the device in the church in Sabon Tasha in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

“The Police has arrested one Nathaniel Samuel with some suspected Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) inside Living Faith Church, Sabon Tasha while the church was in session,” Yakubu Sabo, spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, said.

“The suspect is currently being interrogated at the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID). We will come up with details later.”

A member of the church, Moses Benjamin, told The Nation newspaper a worshipper during the first service observed the suspect while planting the device and quickly alerted the security personnel

“He was then approached by the security team who immediately raised alarm and the suspect was apprehended,” he said.

Another member said the suspect was apprehended after dropping the bag and sneaked out and that he was later traced to the church’s toilet where he was caught holding a remote control.
