An American pastor was moved to tears at the recent wedding of Agnes Andimi, daughter of Lawan Andimi, slain Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), to her heartthrob, Gabriel Egwurube, in an elaborate ceremony in Makurdi, Benue State, North Central part of the country.

Rev. Andimi was beheaded by Boko Haram terrorists in January 2020 after he was abducted for several days. He was CAN chairman in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State, North East Nigeria.

Christian Post reports that Pastor William Devlin of the Infinity Bible Church in South Bronx, New York, who attended the wedding ceremony held in St. Peter’s Parish, Makurdi, was moved to tears during the ceremony.

Delvin said he came along with a Nigerian and human rights lawyer, Emmanuel Ogebe to attend the event.

Devlin, who operates the ministries REDEEM and Widows and Orphans, said he became emotional when he and Ogebe were invited to take a picture with the family of the slain pastor.

“I cried when we both had the honour to stand in the gap for the martyred pastor, invited by his widowed wife and his daughter and the groom,” he said.

The American cleric said he became familiar with Mary, Andimi’s wife, through Jesus Healing Trauma Gathering, a programme he co-founded with Ogebe in 2021.

Nigerian clerics not at event

Delvin expressed worries that Nigerian Christian leaders as well as America clerics did not grace the event associated with their martyred colleague.

He enjoined Christians in the United States to stand with their persecuted brethren.

Delvin also said while in Nigeria, he and Ogebe attended the 12th anniversary of the 2011 Christmas Day bombing of St. Theresa’s Church in Madalla, near Suleja, Niger State.

No fewer than 37 people were bombed to death during the attack for which Boko Haram claimed responsibility.
