Pastor Enoch Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Nigeria’s largest Pentecostal Church, has vowed to continue to pray alongside his prayer warriors until rapists in the country are brought to justice.

Adeboye spoke on Sunday in a live programme on DOVE Television, the church’s private television.

Sexual violence has been on the rise in Nigeria in the recent times with some resulting to the death of the victims.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, said on Monday June 15, that a total of 717 incidents of rape were recorded in the country between January and May 2020.

The police boss told journalists after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari that 799 rape suspects had been arrested, 631 cases conclusively investigated and charged to court while 52 cases were still under investigation.

Adeboye, whose church member, Uwaila Omozuwa, died after she was raped in Benin City, Edo State, lamented that sexual violence had become rampant in the society and insisted that something should be done to curtail it.

He described rape as bad and unbiblical, saying it could leave a permanent scar on a victim for the rest of her life.

He said there is no pain that could be compared to the pain of the parents whose child was raped.

He said, “My prayer warriors and I will not rest in prayers until the perpetrators of this evil are brought to justice, not only in Nigeria but all over the world.

“Everyone who has ever committed rape, particularly in Nigeria and other parts of the world, the all-knowing God will fish them out.

“As much as I hate death sentence, I think every form of punishment that will be given to a rapist cannot be considered too severe.

“Anyone who thinks of raping someone again, the Almighty God will stop them, even before they do so. And If they insist, God will take them away.

“I am calling on every Christian all over the world to please join me in this prayer.”
