A popular Nigerian gospel singer Aduke Gold is dead.

The singer whose real name is Aduke Ajayi died on Monday August 12, Esther Igbekele, another gospel singer, announced on her Facebook page on Tuesday.

“A general has fallen. Rest in Peace,” Igbekele said.

Aduke’s most notable hit was “Nitori Ogo,” a track that garnered her widespread acclaim.

Born on March 16, 1990, Aduke graduated in History and International Relations from the Lagos State University. She later got diplomas in Montessori education, Child Psychology, and other fields.

She reportedly adopted the stage name Aduke Gold following the advice of her mentor, Tope Alabi, a gospel singer.

She was the CEO of MatGold pastries and MatGold Bamini Montessori schools.

Aduke Gold was single at the time of her death.

Cause of death

Meanwhile, the family of the late singer has revealed the cause of her death.

There were conflicting reports about the cause of her death with some saying she died during a fibroids operation.

Premium Times quoted Aderogbo Ajayi, a pastor and singer’s brother, saying she did not die of fibroid removal surgery.

“She was ill; she had cervical cancer (a type of cancer that starts in the cervix – the lower, narrow part of the uterus (womb) that connects to the vagina. She was taken to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, but unfortunately, she died.

Aduke

“We have gotten the death certificate, and whoever is spreading false information should stop. Our daughter was ill; she had cervical cancer, and to the Glory of God, she rested on Monday, the 12th of August.

“All the information spreading around about the cause of her death is false. The press is not doing the right thing, and I don’t know why it’s like that. Instead of getting information from the right source, they spread rumours. She (Aduke Gold) started as a choir member in our church and rose to stardom. She was faithful and committed to this church,” Pastor Ajayi said.

Burial

He added that the Aduke would be buried on August 23.

He said, “I am her elder brother and like a father to her because we are from the same father but different mothers. I started nurturing her in 1993 after the death of our father and from secondary to university, but unfortunately, we experienced her sudden death.

“We held a family meeting and decided that the burial would take place on the 23rd of August, with several outlined programmes. On the 21st, there will be a candlelight.”
