U.S. President, Donald Trump, has lamented the manner Christians in the country are treated by politicians, saying they are not treated like other faiths, Christian Headlines reports.
I’m somebody that believes in faith,” Trump said during Coronavirus Task Force briefing on April 18. “And it matters not what your faith is, but our politicians seem to treat different faiths very differently.
“….I don’t know what happened with our country, but the Christian faith is treated much differently than it was and I think it’s treated very unfairly.”
A Christian, Paul Sperry, had in a tweet, said he would watch if U.S. authorities would enforce the social distancing orders for mosques during Ramadan as they did churches during Easter.
Ramadan fast holds from April 23 to May 23. Trump, who retweeted in response said it was directed at politicians, not imams.
The president was asked if he believed Islamic leaders “wouldn’t follow social distancing.”
“No, I don’t think that at all,” he said.
Clarifying “I just spoke (on phone) with leaders and people that love mosques; they love mosques. But I would say that there could be a difference. And we’ll have to see what will happen because I’ve seen a great disparity in this country. I’ve seen a great disparity.”
The president made reference to “a very strong anti-Israel bent in Congress with Democrats” that would have been “unthinkable seven or 10 years ago.”
