Nigerian Christians mourn presidential aide

Abba Kyari

Nigeria’s apex Christian organisation, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has commiserated with President Muhammadu Buhari over the death of his aide, Abba Kyari.

Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Buhari, died of the dreaded COVID-19, on April 17 in a Lagos hospital, First Cardiology Consultant (FCC).

The deceased had tested positive to the pandemic on March 23 and died 25 days after. He was buried in Abuja on April 18.

CAN, in a letter of condolence to Buhari by its president, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, said Kyari sacrificed his life for the greatness of Nigeria because he contracted the disease while on national assignment to Germany.

“We are particularly sad that he contracted the virus while on duty abroad. He has thus sacrificed his life in the course of service to his motherland. That spoke much of his patriotic devotion to greatness of our nation,” Ayokunle said.

CAN which also described the death as a ‘big blow’ to the Buhari administration, prayed for the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss by all the bereaved.

It also promised to “continue to pray for President Buhari for enhanced wisdom and patience to lead a great country like Nigeria.”
