A Catholic priest, Theophilus Ndulue, has been abducted in Enugu, South East Nigeria, PREMIUM TIMES is reporting.
Ndulue, the Parish Priest of Ihuonyia Amansiodo in Ndiagu Oghe, Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state, was abducted on Friday along Amansiodo Road on his way home.
The newspaper reported that the cleric was abducted alongside a lady, Stella Odo.
The Enugu Police Command has confirmed the incident.
Ndulue’s abduction happened barely two weeks after another Catholic priest was kidnapped and subsequently released.
Arince Madu, who is the Deputy Rector of Queen of the Apostle Spiritual Year Seminary, Imeize Owa, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was kidnapped on October 29.
Madu was the 8th Catholic priest to be abducted in Enugu this year.
Two of the victims were killed, while others were set free after ransom was allegedly paid to the kidnappers.
Police spokesperson, Ebere Amaraizu, said Ndulue was taken along Amansiodo road on November 15, adding that Ms Odo, who was with the clergyman was rescued by operatives of the Operation Puff Adder, who reportedly swung into action immediately the kidnap was reported.
He said the police had intensified efforts to free the priest.
Also speaking on the incident, the Catholic Communication Director for Enugu Diocese, Benjamin Achi, told PREMIUM TIMES “My brother, that was the bad news we went to bed with after our meeting at the Holy Ghost Cathedral last evening. A colleague working in that area just informed me. That’s all. No extra information.”
