The Nelons

Three members of The Nelons, an award winning American gospel group, have died in a plane crash.

Jason Clark, his wife, Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber Kistler were killed in the crash which occurred last Friday as they travelled to a Gaither Homecoming Cruise in Alaska.

Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler, Melodi Hodge, and pilot Larry Haynie and his wife, Melissa, also died in the accident.

Gaither Music announced the sad incident in a statement.

Jason Clark, Kelly Nelon Clark, and Amber Kistler were of the four members of The Nelons, who have won three GMA Dove Awards and received multiple Grammy nominations, Crosswalk Headlines reported.

Autumn, the youngest daughter of the Clarks and the fourth member of the group, did not accompany them on the trip as she and her husband, Jamie Streetman, received the news of the crash upon their arrival in Seattle.

Crosswalks Headlines reported that the accident is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Autumn, in a statement, expressed appreciation to those who have been praying for her and her family.

“As many of you have heard by now, my father and mother, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister, Amber, and brother-in-law, Nathan, as well as our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry, and Melissa Haynie, were involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday.

“Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. We appreciate your continued prayers, love, and support as we navigate the coming days.”

The Nelons’ roots go back to the late 70s when Kelly’s father, Rex Nelon, formed The Rex Nelon Singers.

The group sings a “blend of gospel, a cappella, hymns, Americana, folk, and inspirational music. Among their songs are If God Pulled Back the Curtain and When Grandpa Sang Amazing Grace, both of which won the Dove Award in 2017 and 2021.
